Saturday night called for a trip to Manchester to see two of my favourite acts at the moment, the exceptional Nadine Shah, and equally impressive Callum Easter. I became familiar with two acts through my love of the Band "Young Fathers" with both supporting the band numerous times last year with Callum becoming a regular fixture in their Live Performances.
The gig took place at New Century Hall in Manchester, a new venue for me, and a great one at that. A short walk from Manchester Victoria made the trip from Leeds very easy, and with such an impressive schedule of gigs and events, I'm sure I'll be back in no time.
The Grade II listed building hosts an impressive 800-capacity music venue on its first floor, and the wide open space allows for great viewing and sound no matter where you find yourself situated. Another thing to mention is the rooms impressive lighting installation on the ceiling, one of the best features I've seen within a venue.
First to the stage was Callum Easter, the Edinburgh-based multi-instrumentalist puts on one hell of a show. Having seen him perform multiple times over the past year, I can say that you never know what you will get. Each show is completely different, sometimes solo, and other times alongside a group of seemingly ever-changing musicians.
Tonight's set started off Solo with Callum on Accordion, with a drummer joining him on stage a few songs in. His sets are powerful and very fast-paced. Having been one of my most listened-to artists last year, it was great to witness his magic once again this evening.

If you are unfamiliar with Callum's work, I'd highly recommend checking him out. "The Callum Easter TV Special" is a great place to start.
Finally, Nadine Shah. WOW, what a performance. The Sunderland-born singer-songwriter released her latest album "Filthy Underneath" in February of this year and I've been playing it constantly ever since. The live shows she puts on alongside her band are incomparable to anything else, the show felt much more than a gig, more akin to a theatrical performance. The stage presence, energy, talent and sheer sincerity in her performance make for an exceptional sight to behold.
